"It's the perceived wisdom that John and Paul were what made the fab four tick. I've never subscribed to that theory; for me, George had all the best tunes. And he'd got soul. Someone else who would agree with me is Julian Bray. Bray is the songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist behind Ragbag. Sounding like a latter day Ian Hunter, he's written ten tunes that Harrison would have traded his weeping guitar for. Drenched in harmonies and jangly guitars here's an album that makes you smile every time you hit the play button. I'm Feeling It In My Mind is all dreamy chords and a tune you can't get out of your head. In I Hate The World [But I Love The Earth] Bray has discovered a classic guitar hook [and rediscovered Macca's fuzz bass] and by the time Songs For The...spins around your head you wonder why these tunes aren't being played on your radio 24/7. All this and some admirable slide guitar- I'm Picking Stones finds Bray switching gear effortlessly into alt country without taking his eyes off the road for a second. Penultimate track Tehran tips the nod to all things psychedelic before In The Life Of closes one of this year's better releases."
